Turkish star arrested in drug raid

Police in Istanbul reportedly arrested Turkish pop idol Tarkan along with some others after what was described as a “significant quantity” of cocaine was found in his home in Istanbul. He has been kept in police station and some of family members been allowed to see him. At present the arrested are being questioned.

Tarkan and others were detained for their alleged links with two drug dealers being monitored by narcotics agents. Police reportedly found and seized a small amount of hashish at the pop star’s country home in the Omerli district near Istanbul, where his villa based.

It was not clear if Tarkan was detained at his home or elsewhere. Tarkan has been a chart-topping pop star in Europe for more than a decade, selling millions of records. His catchy Arabic-influenced tune “Simarik” (Spoiled) reached the top of music charts in France in 1998 also alot of holiday makers in Turkey will remember him with “Kiss Kiss” songs which has been played in alot of cafe bars.

According to national news agents in Istanbul police will questioning him and will be kept in, also national tv reported that Hakan Tevetoglu as saying Friday outside police headquarters. The detained are likely to be questioned separately by prosecutors as early as late Friday before prosecutors decide whether to press charges. Several famous Turkish entertainers have been prosecuted in recent years for possessing and using drugs same as every other country.
